Travel Information

Fribourg/Freiburg (Switzerland) is situated in the centre of Switzerland and can be reached via international airports at Zurich, Geneva, or Basel-Mulhouse. All three airports are at a distance of approximately 90 minutes by train. Train connections are frequent and very good. There are also good connections to high-speed trains in neighbouring countries (ICE, frecce, TGV). Information on train schedules and tickets can be found at sbb.ch.

Please note that (much) cheaper train tickets are available if booked in advance and for low peak times.

AccomModation and PLACES To EAT

A list of hotels and other types of accomodation is available on the website of the Tourist office (Where to stay). Please make sure to book your accomodation well in advance!



Room quotas are reserved at the Hotel Alpha, the Hotel du Faucon and the Hôtel Fribourg Centre Remparts  (limited number of pre-booked rooms). Please book your room by e-mail to hello@alpha-hotel.ch or hotel@hotel-du-faucon.ch or info@hotelremparts.ch and make sure to indicate the reservation code "EUROSLA 31", the planned arrival and departure dates, the number of room(s), a credit card number to validate the reservation and your coordinates. You will also find 20 preserved rooms at Becozy.

Should you not find a hotel room in the city of Fribourg, then look for an accommodation in the nearest most easily accessible towns belonging to the urban area of Fribourg: Marly, Granges-Paccot, Villars-sur-Glâne, Givisiez (bus connections), Düdingen (train connection). Note that pilgrims accommodation (Fribourg, Villars-sur-Glâne) offers an interesting alternative.

Berne is a 25-minute train ride away and well served (several trains per hour). The city provides a wide choice of places to stay: Hotels in Bern

Tourism

The old town of Fribourg is a must-see historic site. The entire Fribourg region is renowned for its beautiful landscapes, smallish medieval towns and culinary delights. And, of course, its Gruyere cheese and delicious chocolate!
